Fish in space: Japan looks to launch killifish into orbit October 25, 2009 |
Sometime in fiscal 2011, astronauts headed to the International Space Station (ISS) will have a little aquatic company: two tanks of killifish. The little fish, however, will not be going into orbit as pets or mascots, but as part of an experiment -- designed by a consortium of about 20 research organizations including the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency -- to examine the physical and genetic effects of long sojourns in space.
