Also called German peat or German peat fiber you see this a lot in photographs taken in Europe especially in the with century. Until fairly recently it was sold by a couple of power filter manufacturers. It can difficult to find outside of Europe.

Also called Canadian peat or Sphagnum peat moss or Sphagnum moss,Sphagnum is a spcis of moss that grows in Canada and makes excellent peat. Can be difficult to find outside of Canada. Can be cultured indoors as a houseplant.
